| Variegated Gold Leaf
Vessel Elizabeth Scesniak 10 a.m. 3 hrs. $35 Come create a beautiful gourd vessel using a variety of Decorative Painting techniques. Starting with gold, copper, and bronze metallic, you will create a quick and easy background for your central design. A stunning variegated gold leaf image will then be added to an ebony circle to complete your beautiful and unique gourd. All materials provided: prepared gourd, paints, design examples, variegated gold leaf, brushed, colored picture, and written instructions. Perfect project for all levels. Limit 20. See picture. |
Pyro Carving Beth Coheley 10 a.m. 3 hrs. $45 Class involves carving out the gourd pattern with your wood burner. You will need a Colwood Cub (or better). We will be using a Colwood "B 1/4 in." #125355 (or similar). You may use any burner you have. All gourds will be supplied. Staining or painting will be done at home. Patterns supplied, or bring one of choice. All levels. Limit 5. See picture. |
Basics of Epoxy Inlay Debbie Byess 10 a.m. 2 hrs. $30 Participants will learn the basics of using epoxy inlay by creating a small flower pendant using a gourd shard. All supplies, including pattern, will be provided. Great class for beginners. Limit 8 students. See picture. |
Leopard Pen and Ink with Oil Pastels Judy Roberts 10 a.m. 3 hrs. $45 Students will learn to transfer a pattern using graphite paper. They will learn simplified pen and ink techniques. They will then use oil pastel sticks and white ink to add a touch of color. The gourd will be finished with leather cream and buffed. Information will be given for more advanced pen and ink techniques. All supplies furnished. All levels. See picture. |
Stained Glass on Gourd Billie Jo Phillips 10 a.m. 2 1/2 hrs. $55 This stained Glass Gourd Votive is for the beginner glass gourd artist. You will learn how to cut glass, how to solder the gourd in preparation of the glass. How to apply foil to glass and gourd in order to attach the two pieces together. You can add a candle or small electric light. It is a joy to make and will add beauty to any decor. We will talk about the different types of glass, how to measure your gourd for glass. How to finish your gourd after glass has been attached. You will have a gourd votive when you finish this class. All supplies furnished. Limit 8. See picture. |
| Woven Gourd Bowl Elizabeth West 1:30 p.m. 3 hrs. $30 We will learn to weave a gourd bowl by using slots cut in the side of the gourd. Instructor will demonstrate how the gourd was prepared; however, gourds for the class will already be cleaned and ready for weaving. All supplies furnished, including prepared gourd and a selection of weaving materials. All levels. Great for beginners. Limit 10. See picture. |
Teneriff Weaving Jeannine Thames 1:30 p.m. 3 hrs. $35 Learn the art of Teneriff. A kit will be provided for you to learn the art of Teneriff. Please bring a sharp pair of scissors and a curved needle, if you have one. All other items necessary to complete the class will be supplied. Come learn a new project and have fun. All levels. Beginning Woodburning: Iridescent
Nature Kathy James 1 p.m. 3 - 3 1/2 hrs. $30 Learn the basics of pyrography and equipment care; practice lines and shadng techniques. You'll woodburn a butterfly or goldfish using PyroPaper, add shading and details, and then add colorful iridescence if you wish. Students must bring a woodburner with temperature control (simple handheld ones are not suitable) and a blade-like tip, plus a gourd of any size or shape, cut or whole. (Many nice ones will be available from show vendors). Instructor will provide several color handouts, extra pyro patterns to take home, and all necessary supplies-tools. If you have favorite tiny brushes, bring them along. All levels. Max 12 See picture. |
Gourd Jewelry Judy Roberts 1:30p.m. 3 hrs. $35 Students will use a gourd piece to fashion a pin, necklace, or barrette. They will be shown a simple technique for smoothing the sides and back of the piece. Then they will decide the finish for the side edge and the design for the middle of the piece. Afterwords they will learn to space and make the holes needed to finish piece. The back will be covered with ultea-suede. Students will need a needle awl. All other supplies will be furnished. Inktense Pencils Billie Jo Phillips 1:30 p.m. 2 hrs. $35 This little gourd has been done with the new Inktense pencils by Detwert. They are very easy to use and have a wide range of painting techniques. Even if you have never painted before you can paint with these remarkable pencils. They are water based and have the look of ink, with rich vibrant colors. All supplies furnished. Limit 20. See picture. |

Background Carving Beth Coheley 10 a.m. 2 hrs. $35 We will carve out the background behind picture creating an oval, round, or square contrasting background. Supplies needed: Power carving tool (Dremel or similar). Instructor will furnish a large supply of the ball tips needed for the carving. Great class for beginners. Limit 5. See picture. |
KumiHimo: Japanese Cord Braiding Kathy James 10am 3 hrs. $30 Learn how to make your own colorful cords for coiling on gourd rims or making necklaces using ancient Japanese braiding techniques on special KumiHimo disks. Elegant results although easy to learn. All supplies porvided, including handouts with history and step-by-step instructions. All levels. Limit 12. See picture. |
Decoupage/Pine Needle Weaving Shirley McEwen 10 a.m. 3 hrs. $35 Learn two techniques. Step 1: Learn how to weave pine needles around a gourd rim. Step 2: Embellish the gourd by decoupaging dried flowers & leaves on the gourd. All supplies furnished. Instructor provides prepared gourd, needle, sinew & pine needles as well as decoupage, foam brush, and embellishments. All levels. Limit 15. See picture. |
Gourd Book Class Jeannine Thames 10 a.m. 3 hrs. $35 Learn the ancient art of Coptic Stitch (Kettle Stitch) using gourd pieces for the cover of your book. You will be provided a kit to complete a unique conversational piece of jewelry to write all of your secrets in! The pages of the book will be sewn together and 2 pieces of gourd will become the "covers" for your book. Then you will decorate with rubberstamping to complete the front of the book. Lots of fun to make and a great piece of jewelry. Finished size is 2" x 7/8". All levels. All supplies furnished. Limit 12. See picture. |
